Mayor's Emergency Response Team Gets Certified

On April 1st & 2nd, the Mount Rainier Emergency Response Team took a 2 day class in community emergency response and were certified as CERT responders. CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) is a program under FEMA that encourages and educates local citizens to be prepared in case of an emergency.

The Mount Rainier CERT team held it's classes at the Mount Rainier Police Department for both days and played host to representatives from other municipalities, including our neighbors in Brentwood.

Some of the things the team learned about was HOW to respond, how to set up an incident command center, how search buildings, what to do in a medical emergency, how to put out small fires, among many other things that help in the community. In fact, keep your eyes open on Mount Rainier Day (May 20th, 2017) for the people with the yellow vests on.....They are your local CERT members!

If you have ever wanted to get involved or wondered what you could do to help your neighbors in case of an emergency, please drop the mayor an email or contact city hall for more information! The more people we have on our team, the better prepared our city will be!
