Meet & Greet With the Mayor

This evening, Mayor Miles held her campaign kick-off with community meet and greet at the Mount Rainier Nature Center. Attendees included local business owners, property owners, renters, church goers, candidates, as well as other civic leaders.

The evening started with a round table discussion where residents asked the mayor questions in regards to some of their current concerns. These topics included Code Enforcement, the Youth and Recreation committee, a citizens advisory committee, Call-A-Bus, traffic and pedestrian safety on Queens Chapel Rd. & 30th Street., gang presence, how to attract and keep people in our wonderful city, keeping seniors in their homes, emergency preparedness, community policing, among others.

The mayor also addressed voting in Mount Rainier and the new voter law that included all residents of our city, regardless of their national citizen status. Voter registration was offered to any and all attendees who had not yet done so.

Mayor Miles ended the round table by stressing how important it is that everyone get to know their neighbors, get involved in the city and local community, and come to city council meetings as a first step in solving any issues we have as a city. This was met with a positive reaction from everyone.

The mayor held many individual discussions for well over an hour afterwards. Many of the attendees signed up to volunteer with the campaign, place signs in their yard, make calls, and donate.

Anyone wishing to volunteer are invited to contact the campaign using the forms at the bottom of the website or call the campaign at 301-316-8988.
